Eye diseases ( Netra Roga ) : The Astrology Viewpoint
Why is the 2nd house called the Netra-sthana – the house of eyes?
Netra means Eyes. Roga is the Sanskrit word for disease. Netra Rogi means a person having a serious problem with his vision. Of the Vedas, Astrology holds the position of the Netra or Eye of Vedas.
Seeing involves light. Light is knowledge. Seeing is believing. Everything that we believe in, our faith is all related to what we have seen. We tend to suspect anything that we have not seen. Seeing leads to knowledge. Seeing leads to wealth and treasures. The eyes are out greatest possession. When we are born into the world the first thing that we do is open our eyes and try to see our family members. For those who are already been introduced to the concepts of Vedic Astrology you may have guessed that 2nd house must be house related to eyesight. Yes. You are right.
The house of eyes in a horoscope is the 2nd house. The 2nd house is the right eye and the 12th house is the left eye, but in general both are the eyes are related more to the 2nd house. So any affliction to the 2nd house indicates problems to the eyes. The Karaka graha (Significator) of eyes is the SUN (Surya / Ravi) in the horoscope. The source of light for our world is the one and only Sun. The Sun also gives us the most vital vitamin D.
So keep an EYE on the 2nd house (pun intended), its lord and the planets influencing the 2nd house lord and also the position and the influence of the Sun in the horoscope.
Keep the following in mind always:
2nd House – Right eye
12th House – Left eye
Sun – Right eye, eyesight, retina, optic vitality
Moon – Left eye
The permanent indicators of Vision:
Look up into the sky. The biggest object is the SUN and the MOON. They are called luminaries in Vedic Astrology. So both the SUN and the Moon are constant indicator of vision and light. Sun is the right eye. Moon is the left eye. If a person has Sun in the 2nd house and Moon in the 12th house then there will be loss of vision or severe eye problems. The reason is the 2nd house is the right eye vision and the 12th house is the left eye vision.
Planetary positions that indicate eye problems.
Sun in the 1st house : Sun is a Pitta planet. The eyes according to Ayurveda is usually affected by Pitta (the fire element in the body. Sage Brigu says that if Sun is in the 1st house the person will be a Netra Rogi meaning that the person will suffer from serious eye problems. The person thinks a lot and is stressed, also has higher blood pressure and this leads to problems with eyes. Such people tend to be agitated even while playing any game. If SUN is Neecha (debilitated) and is also in the 1st house then serious eye problems are indicated.
Solution: Bring down the Pitta as much as possible before the eyes get affected.
Sun in the 2nd house: If Sun is in the 2nd house then also there are possibilities of serious eye diseases. In case along with this there is MARS (KUJA) in the 2nd house then 100% there will be serious eye disease and possibilities of being blind.
Sun in the 6th house: If Sun is in the 6th house there is the possibility of eye diseases. If such a SUN is placed along with a MALEFIC then the eye problem is sure to come by.
Sun in the 12th house: If Sun is in the 12th house there is the possibility of eye diseases. If such a SUN is placed along with a MALEFIC then the eye problem is sure to come by.
Mars in the 2nd house: I have seen a lot of people who had serious eye problems having Mars in the 2nd house. Mars works against Mercury who is related to Nerves. So nerve related eye problems are caused by Mars in the 2nd house. Mars in the 2nd house indicates serious eye trouble and it is confirmed if there are other natural malefics in the 2nd house without the connection with Jupiter or Venus.
Mars in the 8th house: Mars in the 8th house indicates eye problems.
Mars in the 12th house: Mars in the 12th house indicates eye problems.
Mercury in the 1st house: Serious left eye problems. Reference is Sage Bhrigu. You want some proof. The author (that's me) has Mercury in the 1st house and my left eye has just about 50% vision left in it. When I asked top eye doctors of Chennai, they have no solutions or answers for my questions pertaining to what was the reason. They were not sure if it was caused by bacteria or virus. The doctor to whom I went when this problem began prescribed the wrong medicine (steroid) in excess dosage and that made things worse. Only I know that it was part of my Karma. I cannot blame the Doctor for being so stupid. However I am glad that Mercury is in the 1st house that allowed me to become a good Astrologer. Sage Brighu says that if SATURN is with MERCURY in the 1st house then such a person will be blind on the left eye. Unfortunately, I have SATURN along with MERCURY in the 1st house.
I should thank God and Gurus that I got back 75% vision on the left eye because JUPITER is close to MERCURY. As always look for Jupiter connection to any planet or house if you want to know if remedies will work. I have always been doing many social service projects for the blind for many years. What a fantasitc science the Sages have given us. Doctors despite possessing many educational qualifications have never been able to even tell me the reason for loss of vision. I pity the so called rationalist and all the people who speak low of Vedic Astrology. May their souls see the light.
Mercury in the 10th house: In the 10th house Mercury gives eye problems first time when a person reaches the age of 28.
Sukra in the 2nd house: Normally Sukra in the 2nd house give good eyes and eyesight. However, Sage Brighu says if the lord of the 2nd house is weak or is in the 6th house or 8th house or 12th house then Sukra in the 2nd house will not help. On the other hand other person will develop eye problems. So it is very important to keep an eye on the 2nd house and its lord more than an anything else. If in such a situation Moon joins Sukra in the 2nd house (and 2nd lord is weak as stated above) then the person may suffer from night blindness and other problems of the eyes.
Saturn in the 2nd house: Saturn in the 2nd house gives eye troubles. Many of those who have this combination are forced to wear high power spectacles.
Saturn in the 8th house: Eye problems are indicated as per Brihat Jataka. Sage Brighu did not mention it though.
Saturn in the 12th house: Sage Brighu says serious eye problems are indicated for those having this combination. The good news is that if the same Saturn is under the influence of a benefic planet then the Sage says the eye problem will not occur. So it means that if Saturn is with malefic planets then surely there will be eye problems.
Rahu or Ketu in the 12th house: If Rahu or Ketu occupy the 12th house then eye problems are indicated. Many others classical book on Astrology also say the same thing

- Eye donation is a noble act of giving one's eyes after death to help restore sight to individuals with corneal blindness.
- Pray to God and ask for mercy. Ask HIM to forgive you for your sins that you have committed with your eyes in the previous births.

How to spot serious Eye Problems in a horoscope?
The presence of one or two planetary combinations indicating eye problems in a horoscope should not immediately lead to the conclusion that the native will suffer from serious vision defects. In many cases, such combinations merely indicate minor refractive errors that can be easily corrected with spectacles or contact lenses.
As with every branch of Vedic Astrology, no single combination should ever be judged in isolation.
The situation becomes very different when several independent combinations point towards the same result. When multiple classical rules indicate eye disease, the Astrologer's confidence in the prediction increases significantly. In other words, the greater the number of planetary combinations indicating eye problems, the greater the likelihood that the person may develop a genuine disorder affecting the eyes. This principle is repeatedly seen in practical horoscope analysis.
I describe this method as "stacking up". Instead of relying on a single planetary combination, an Astrologer should count how many independent combinations support the same conclusion. For example, if three combinations indicating eye disease are present, one may say that the possibility is moderate. If five combinations are present, the probability becomes much stronger. When eight, ten, or even more combinations independently indicate eye problems, the evidence becomes overwhelmingly convincing. The more combinations that stack up, the stronger the prediction becomes.
However, it is important to understand that not all planetary combinations carry equal weight. Some combinations are relatively weak and merely increase the possibility of eye trouble, while others are exceptionally powerful and almost confirm the result by themselves. An experienced astrologer learns to distinguish between these weak and strong combinations through years of study and practical experience. Therefore, simply counting combinations is not enough; their individual strength must also be carefully evaluated.
Retina Problems of the Eye
There are occasions when a horoscope may contain only three combinations, yet each of them is a major classical rule carrying considerable predictive strength. In such cases, the diagnosis may be virtually certain despite the smaller number of combinations. Serious disorders such as retinal disease, optic nerve damage, or other vision-threatening conditions are often seen when several powerful combinations occur together.
It is therefore the quality of the combinations, together with the principle of stacking up, that ultimately determines the severity of eye problems indicated in a horoscope.
