Why Does the 26th Recur in the History of Disasters?
On the morning of 26 August 2026, a massive glacier and rock collapse near the Nepal–Tibet border sent a violent surge of water, mud and boulders through the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river system. Settlements, bridges, roads and hydropower installations were swept away, while a terrible number of people lost their lives or went missing. The catastrophe appears to have begun at approximately 8:37 a.m. Nepal Standard Time. And once again, the date was the 26th—as though history had not already given us enough tragedies connected with this number. The Gujarat earthquake, the Bam earthquake, the Indian Ocean tsunami and the Mumbai floods are only a few prominent examples. For an Astrologer, such repetition naturally raises a question: is this merely a striking coincidence, or does the 26th reveal an astrological pattern that deserves closer examination?What should we examine in the horoscope of a natural catastrophe?
The first place to examine is the fourth house. It represents our home, homeland, property, vehicles, security and physical comfort. It is rightly called Sukhasthāna—the house of comfort and happiness. A natural catastrophe violently disrupts these significations: homes are destroyed, land becomes unstable, vehicles are swept away and people are forced out of their familiar surroundings. In astrological terms, such an event may be understood as the collective manifestation of accumulated Karma.
The next consideration is the Sarpa Drekkāṇas, which occur in the water signs. Count how many planets occupy these Drekkāṇas and study their condition carefully. Their involvement may become especially significant when the catastrophe concerns floods, oceans, rivers, torrential rain or other dangers arising from water.
The Moon is the principal water graha. Its placement, strength, afflictions, nakshatra and connections with malefic planets must therefore be examined whenever destruction comes through water.
Mars represents explosive force, violent release, heat, accidents and destruction. It shows the energy that suddenly breaks structures, damages the land and transforms a dangerous situation into a catastrophe.
Saturn represents the masses and collective suffering. It is also strongly associated with death, grief, deprivation, obstruction and prolonged hardship. When a disaster produces deaths on a large scale, Saturn’s involvement deserves particularly close attention.
Finally, we arrive at the recurring date of the 26th. In this investigation, 26 emerges as one of the most unfortunate double-digit numbers and one of the most repeatedly associated dates on our calendar. Whether this repetition is coincidence, numerical symbolism or part of a deeper astrological pattern is the central question that this study seeks to explore.
The Fourth House Under the Combined Attack of Mars and Saturn
In this event horoscope, Virgo rises as the Ascendant; therefore, Mercury, the lord of the Ascendant, represents Nepal and the event itself. Mercury is in a deeply troubled condition because it is hemmed between the Sun and Ketu in the twelfth house. The 12th house is the house of loss.
The fourth house of comforts, Sagittarius, receives the direct 7th house Drishti (aspect or glance) of Mars—an aspect common to all planets—and the special tenth-house aspect of Saturn. This combined influence of Mars and Saturn upon the fourth house is extremely important. Natural catastrophes and wars invariably disturb the fourth-house factors: homes are destroyed, people are displaced, vehicles are damaged, the land becomes unsafe and ordinary comforts disappear. The fourth house is called Sukhasthāna, the house of happiness, security and comfort. It represents our home, property, vehicles, homeland and the very land upon which we live. A catastrophe is, therefore, the exact opposite of everything promised by Sukhasthāna.
The 4th house lord Jupiter is hemmed between Mars in Gemini and the set of 3 planets in Leo, Sun and Ketu along with an afflicted Mercury. This is usually referred as Papa-Kartari Yoga.
The Star Connection
- Mars the explosive energy planet and the planet of war and violence is in Arudra Nakshatra. Arudra Nakshatra is very destructive and related to the destructive power of Lord Shiva.
- Jupiter is in Mercury Star and Mercury is severely afflicted. Please look how close Sun and Ketu are to Mercury. It is a tight conjunctions. Close conjunctions are very destructive in nature. Sun, Mercury and Ketu are all in Magha Nakshatra that is ruled by Ketu.
- Venus is debilitated (Neecha) and in the star of Mars the destruction planet.
- Moon the water planet is in Moon Star and in a Saturn sign.
- Saturn is in Mercury star and we know that Mercury is severely afflicted in the horoscope.
A Saturn-Dominated Date Between Two Eclipses
The Moon was in Capricorn, a sign ruled by Saturn, and in Shravana Nakshatra, a lunar star situated within Saturn’s sign. The event was therefore strongly dominated by Saturn. Saturn is always linked to number 8. The Nepal Flood occurred in the 8th month; the year ending in 26 reduces to 8; and the date itself, 26, also reduces to eight. Even the complete date—26-08-2026—adds up to 26 and ultimately to eight. Readers may refer to my articles “Saturn-Dominated Time” and “The Fascinating Number 8,” the latter having been one of my signature articles for more than two decades. The sixth–twelfth axis of the horoscope is heavily occupied by malefic planets, with an eclipse pattern developing along the same axis. A solar eclipse had occurred fourteen days before the catastrophe, while a lunar eclipse followed on 28 August, when the Moon entered Aquarius and came opposite the Sun. The Nepal catastrophe thus occurred between a pair of eclipses. Astrologers should pay particular attention to the period between two eclipses because natural catastrophes—and sometimes wars—frequently become prominent during such eclipse fortnights.
The Afflicted Sun, Debilitated Venus and Explosive Energy
A river descending from the Himalayan heights can be regarded as a life-giving blessing to large number of people who live on either side of the river. Most civilisations built their homes close to the river. Water is the basis for a civilisation. However when the same water becomes a destructive flood, we witness the adverse expression of an afflicted Sun operating during an eclipse period.
Eclipses are linked to upsetting Sun and the Moon. Sun gets afflicted during Solar eclipse and Moon gets afflicted during Moon eclipse. Generally regardless of the whether it is Solar or Lunar eclipse during the fortnight when both the eclipses happen, the Sun and Moon are generally afflicted.
The Sun and Mars represents heat, and the melting or destabilisation of a glacier naturally brings the solar principle into the discussion. In this horoscope, the Sun is afflicted by Ketu, with Mercury caught between the Sun and Ketu. Mars is aspecting the 4th house and also Venus the planet that rules luck. This is pure bad luck that this unfortunate event happened.
The 9th house represents divine grace and protection. For Virgo Ascendant, Venus rules the ninth house, but Venus is debilitated in Virgo. 9th house is the house of luck and fortune. The 9th house lord is Venus. In the horoscope Venus is afflicted by both Saturn and Mars: Saturn aspects (Drishti) Venus by its seventh-house aspect, while Mars looks at Venus through its special destructive fourth-house aspect (Drishti). Thus, the fourth house of land and security and the ninth lord of divine protection are both subjected to the combined influence of Mars and Saturn. In Mundane Astrology, this Mars–Saturn connection often reveals the explosive, violent and destructive energy behind major catastrophes.
The Sarpa and Ayudha Drekkanas.
Sarpa Drekkanas have so much poison in them which indirectly means harm or death to human beings. Jupiter the 4th house lord is in Sarpa Drekkana. The other major planet Saturn is in Ayudha Drekkana. Why are we discussing Ayudha Drekkana ? It is because Ayudha is linked to weapons and destruction of human life. Ayudha relates to natural catastrophe as much as it relates to war. Human life is destroyed. Mars in the horoscope is also in Ayudha Drekkana.
Nepal Kurma Chakra
The Kūrma Chakra is an important tool in Mundane Astrology for identifying the geographical regions likely to experience the effects of planetary events. For this study, Nepal is treated as an independent Kūrma field and divided into nine directional regions, with three nakshatras assigned to each division. When Kathmandu is placed according to its geographical coordinates, it falls just inside the southern division governed by Uttaraphālgunī, Hasta and Citrā, making Virgo—or Kanyā—the principal zodiacal sign associated with Nepal’s capital in this Kūrma Chakra.
So Nepal is basically Virgo Zodiac Sign. The 4th from Virgo got afflicted to the maximum because of Saturn and Mars aspects as mentioned below. It is an unbelievable coincidence that the event horoscope also has Virgo as the Ascendant. All these factors prove that Astrology is a divine science and can help mankind understand why certain events happen in certain places.
