Time of Birth : How accurate should it be?

Time does matter!

The problem of birth time accuracy actually applies only to a small percentage of those who use Vedic Astrology as a tool for predictions and suggestions about their life. Most people have no problem with the time of birth factor.

How accurate should the time of birth be? This question has been asked countless number of times. In this video I have provided the answer. Now and then people call me up and say “I am not sure of my time of birth in that case, is it possible to have an Astrological consultation”? There are several answers because there could be a variety of reasons for this.

The most common reasons

When someone gets inquisitive about their future, they always look upto an Astrologer in case they believe that Astrology is dependable. The time of birth has not been recorded anywhere and no one in the family knows when the person was born. Of course everyone knows the Date of Birth and Place of Birth. Some people say my mother told me I was born around Sunrise time, or Sunset time. In those days people used to say when the grazing cows came back home for example.

Some may say "I know I was born somewhere between 9 am to 10 am". There are others who said looks like I was born somewhere between 3 pm to 6 pm. In short all these people do not know their time of birth. Some know it as a time range like 10 am to 12 noon.

There are others who says "the hospital records show 1 : 20 am but my mother says 12:30 am. Which one is right"?

I remember someone telling, "My Astrologer told me that my time of birth must have been 10:20 am while my mother gave me the information that I was born at 11:00 am. Now what to do Sir?.

Another Big Problem for an Astrologer.

You may know the exact time of birth because someone was serious about noting it to the minute. Say 13:36 (pm). When we do the horoscope preparation we see that the Ascendant is on the border of Mithuna and Karkataka Lagna. These 2 lagna are completely different because what is good for Mithuna Lagna is bad for Karkataka Lagna people. The horoscope goes in for a kaleidoscopic change. Everything is opposite. Mars is very bad for Mithuna Lagna while Mars is YogaKaraka for Karkataka Lagna.

You may say that the Astrologer should only use 13:36 (pm) as the time of birth while doing the reading. So what's the fuss. The point is that the person may have been born at 13:35 but someone noted it as 13:36. There is this possibility. Here the discretion of the Astrologer is very important. By reverse engineering he will have to find out which Lagna (Ascendant) explains more of the events in the life of the person.

Please understand that the Ascendant changes approximately once in 2 hours if the place of birth is closer to the equator. Just for the sake of understanding we can say that since there are 24 hours. in a day and only 12 Ascendants that has to rise, we can guess that every 2 hours a new sign will rise on the eastern horizon (Ascendant).

To be continued.....

We will be discussing the divisional charts, like Navamsa Charts, Dasamsa Chart and time sensitivity problems related to the finer aspects of Vedic Astrology.
