To Go or Not to Go - Livelihood in Foreign Countries

One of the most important truth you may discover in a horoscope is whether the person has luck in foreign lands or it is better to stay in one's motherland. Some people have what is called short term luck in foreign countries. Some go to a foreign land only to remain unhappy and lead an unsatisfactory life. They want to come back but fate will keep them in a foreign land. So many types of what is called the "Foreign Yoga" or "Foreign Dosha". Let's unravel the mystery. 

In Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra (BPHS Volume 1), Maharishi Parasara gives us the following instructions. Let us classify the following combinations as the BIG 3 LF  for Luck in Foreign countries. 

Among the many yogas connected to luck or going to foreign countries the  person having any of the above 3 combinations  (BIG 3 LF) has the greatest potential for becoming more easily a citizen of a foreign country. In other words if the person takes the initiative of going to a foreign land then the person will eventually become a citizen of a foreign country. If a person having this combinations has not yet visited a foreign country it only means that he or she will visit a foreign country very soon especially during a relevant Dasha and AntarDasha or when a particular planetary transit triggers the event. 

In the above 3 planetary combinations did you notice that the 6th house is involved in all the 3. Do you know why? 6th house is opposite 12th house. 12th house is going away. All opposite houses have something in common to each other. Moreover 6th house is house that relates to enemy. Foreign lands are somewhat like an enemy land. If you go abroad and try to make for example USA your home, the US Citizens are actually your enemies in a certain way. They will always consider you as an intruder or a trespasser from their point of view.  Though the foreign government gives protection to the immigrant  who has come from another country, the immigrant always feels like they are 2nd grade citizens in the foreign land. 

Most of the time a person goes abroad mainly for the extra income or a better source of income. Income is related to the 2nd house. So Rule number 1 speaks about the 6th house lord in the 2nd house. The house of enemy (foreign) which is the 6th  and the house of income  which is the 2nd is connected to make the prediction that this person will eventually settled down in a foreign country. 

11th house is the house of desire. 6th house is the house of enemy. A person having the combination that the 11th house lord is in the 6th house is desirous of going to a foreign country. 

The 2nd, 6th and 10th house in any horoscope is called ARTHA Trikona. Artha means wealth. All the 3 houses are linked to wealth in some way or other. The 6th house is also connected to debts. To earn money there is a need to borrow money. Students loan for example. Students have to first take a loan and then go abroad to study. The same student may eventually find a job in the same country.  6th house is like an employee or a servant. One  may serve a foreign country almost like a servant to the foreign boss. 

Whatever fault we may find with 6th house, the BIG 3 FL is always an advantage over other combinations indicating settling down in a foreign country.  Therefore the above 3 planetary combinations are to be considered the best yogas when it comes to livelihood in a foreign country. A person having this combination is comparatively  happier in a foreign country. 

This is a strange combination that does not karmically compel a person to go abroad. This means the person may go abroad now and then but mostly stay in their motherland. However eventually life will offer many opportunities to earn through the friendship of those living in foreign lands. 

In BPHS, Maharishi Parasara says that "if the lord of the 11th house occupies the 12th house, the person will befriend foreigners".

I know many people living abroad having this planetary combination (yoga). However I also know many who have actually not settled down in a foreign country but the business is connected to foreign countries. Perhaps income is through export and import activities. Therefore this planetary position is not a guarantee for becoming a citizen of a foreign land. People having this yoga may make many trips abroad and develop friendship with foreigners.  The basic idea is that 11th house is house of friends. 12th house is the house that is related to foreign. If the 11th house lord is in the 12th house it means your friends will be foreigners. 

Today through Facebook etc, people have more opportunities to have friendship with foreigners without actually going abroad. The  friendship may be the starting point of a business venture. 

What we experience in life for many years or most part of our life is usually a reward or punishment from a past life. The BIG 3 FL may be a reward from our past life. Some of you may say it is not because the 6th house of enemy is involved in the BIG 3 FL rules and 6th house is related to sin from past lives. 

On the other hand the Maharishi in the following shloka very clearly says that there is wandering in a foreign land yoga. From the shloka we know it is definitely a punishment related foreign yoga. 

The above shloka is from BPHS Volume 1, Chapter 23. This shloka consists of 2 main factor. The 12th house  and Krura Grahas (Malefics). Wandering in a foreign land happens when Malefics (Krura Grahas) are related to the 12th house or 12th house factors. Maharishi Parasara logically connects the house of loss and malefic planets because both these factors are connected to sins from past lives. Loss here means losing your motherland. Loss also means going away from what is yours.  12th house is a punishment house as we all know that 12th house is a dushthana. 

Vyaya means 12th house. Isha means lord of. The first word in the Shloka means lord of 12th house lord. Maharishi Parasara  says if the 12th house  lord if related to Krura Grahas, if the 12th house is occupied by Krura Grahas or if the 12th house lord has any sambhanda (relationship) with Krura grahas the Maharishi says the person will WANDER from one country to another country. 12th house is loss and impediments, imprisonment or bondage. In short this shloka is just talking about any relationship between 12 and malefic planets.  That's all. Greater the affliction of the 12th house factor by malefic planets (Krura Grahas), greater is the wandering in a foreign land.  The Maharishi hints at constant moving from one foreign country (or city) to another because the person is not very happy being in the foreign country (city). Happy people stay in the same place for years together, the unhappy keep searching for happiness in a different place. This is the idea. 

From the list of Krura Grahas, Rahu is the most significant graha when it comes to the topic "Foreign". 2nd strongest is Saturn. In the comments please try to explain why this is so. 

Another interesting fact is that during the Dasha and Antardasha of the planets involved in the EXILE DOSHA, the person goes abroad for the 1st time. 

In the Nabhasa Yoga scheme, we have a yoga called Rajju Yoga (comes under the Asraya Yoga) that indicated strongly that the person earns by working in a foreign land. 

If the 9th house lord is in the 12th house (going to foreign places) the person usually goes away from parents to study in a college that is far away.

In connection to foreign trips there is another yoga which says that the person will travel frequently to foreign countries but will always come back. The main factors here is the 7th house and the 7th house lord connection with the 1st house lord. 

In the above horoscope the Ascendant is Vrischika Lagna (Scorpio). The lord of the Ascendant is Mars (Kuja). Locate the house where Mars is. It is in the 7th house. So the 1st house lord is in the 7th house. This combination indicates frequent trips abroad. Moreover in this chart, Venus is the 7th house lord. Venus is also in the 7th house. So Mars is related very strongly connected to the 7th house  because Mars has a relationship with not only the 7th house but also the 7th house lord at the same time. This means more and more trips abroad. 

I know of a person who has the same planetary positions as shown above and he has been travelling to some foreign country every month at least 1 trip and sometimes 2 trips abroad and this has been happening for more than 25 years. The 7th house is the house business. It is the house of travel for business or relationship. Customer is also a type of relationship. The only time he did not travel was during covid-19 season. The Covid 19 restricted his foreign trips. This proves that the "World Karma" or collective Karma can modify the results of individual Karma. However Astrology gets proven here. Assume 1 trip abroad per month for 25 years. That's not a fluke. It must be a matter of destiny.

We are now going to discuss the planetary  combinations that keeps you in your Motherland and works against going abroad. The opposite must always exist. Since we use the word motherland, motherland must be related to the 4th house. Also the 9th house is father and traditions and refusal to follow the dharma of foreigners. So the main houses are 4th house and the 9th house. 

Remember earlier on we discussed the "wandering yoga". There must be something opposite to that. So benefics influencing the 12th house, the lord of the 12th house related to benefic planets and some type of beneficial planets relationship with 12th house factors should be considered opposite of exile dosha. 

Living with parents in the nation that you are born is surely to be a considered as a kind of luck. One is always stronger in the place of birth. You must be aware of the term "comfort zone" and this is related to 4th house more than any other house. 

I will give you are few example that makes the person stay with parents in their motherland. 

Some people have a mix of both yogas. i.e. there is luck in motherland and also in a foreign land. These people will experience mixed results. Sometime they will live abroad and then later on they will settle down in their motherland.
